Day 23: Best K Lesson So Far

Wednesday February 22, 2012 Blog Post

My kindergarten lesson went very well today. I looked up the specific images they wrote for each blank line in the poem. They had four categories they created and each student had to pick one. So for each blank in the poem, I had a powerpoint slide where the line of the poem was written, the options of what they wrote were written and the images were shown. When I made my teacher generated sample this helped me with drawing the images so I figured it would help them as well. The drawings turned out much better and we did each one box by box, line by line. I also took time to have them number their boxes and outline them with pencil. The other classes ended up just going crazy and drawing all over the paper so this was a way to focus in more and control the progress and understanding of the project. I liked how engaged they were in seeing the words they selected projected. It really made a connection to them that I took the extra effort to do that. Since I didn't do the lesson this way with all the classes it makes it hard to get the four words. I learned how to do the lesson and if I do it in the future I will do it this way.
