Day 33: 3rd Day @ Westhill

Wednesday March 14, 2012

I told Jamie about the billboard idea and he was like, "You really get things done don't you?" We solidified plans to have me run the lesson in the graphic design class. It will begin next Wednesday and run two weeks. It interferes with Jeff's class for one of the periods but we all discussed it and agreed I can begin running that class after I'm done with the graphic design lesson. We agreed that lesson would take two weeks. It's pretty exciting. I'd love to be able to put a billboard up and get a space to do that. Overall I think billboards are too much, always having ads, and demands to buy in your face, but lately I've been seeing these "Pass It On" billboards when I'm traveling and I love them. I saw one in Albany the other day that had a picture of Kermit the Frog and said, "Eats Flies. Dates A Pig. Hollywood Star." LIVE YOUR Dreams. I travel a lot so over the past several months I've been seeing these and really like how they aren't about buying something, just about something that creates a thought, or a smile, or a good feeling, using the billboard for something it's not typically used for.

Jeff and Jamie both said they could pay for the $150 out of their art budget and said if that's all its going to be its not a big deal and they will cover it somehow. I was willing to pay for it myself if necessary so was glad they said they could have it covered and was glad to see them behind the idea. I think it's great for service learning and is a way for the students to do and be proud of something in their community that makes a positive impact!
