Mary Lynn started a collage still life project with 4th graders. One girl got kicked out of class because she complained about being moved. She yelled no and said you have it all wrong all the way out the door. The security officer had to be called and she didn't go where she was supposed to.
My K lesson went very well. This was the third class I presented it to so all the kinks were worked out by the time I did it the third time and it really paid off in the end. The final pieces were much clearer and better overall. Having the exact references to look at on the slideshow based on the 4 words they selected for each line of their poem really helped. It helped me in doing the teacher example to have a reference in drawing so I figured it would help the kids as well and it did. We began the class with 3 boxes left to draw and got through box 4, 5, and 6. Some of the kids had added words of the poem to their illustrations so I had the rest of them do that as well. We didn't get to the outlining but it's okay because I have them again on Friday. One boy cried his eyes out at the end of class out of the blue. I asked him what was wrong and he was sad because he didn't get to finish his drawing. I hugged him and told him it was okay because we would have plenty of time to work on it next time. He cheered up a little.
The handout I gave the kids to work on while they glazed their dust bunnies didn't go over so well the first time I did it. Mary Lynn kind of had kids glazing while I was explaining it and it just didn't get the time to be explained. The first time they were making their dust bunnies I had them do a handout that just asked them to name and pick a color and draw their favorite dust bunny. The second class I had them pick words that rhymed with pinch pot, glaze, and dust bunny. They had to draw words that rhymed. This time I took more time to explain it to them. Mary Lynn didn't think it worked the first time or that they got it and kind of suggested I not do it again and let them free draw but I really felt it was disrupted so tried it again and she said that was fine. I asked her to wait until they understood it to begin the glazing and that helped. By what they drew you could tell they understood it better.
Tonight I am going to work on my printouts for my binder.
